Allergic bite mosquito reaction
Most people, when bitten by a mosquito will suffer from an allergic bite mosquito reaction. Usually an itchy red bump from a mosquito bite will not occur until about 12 to 24 hours after the bite has occurred, so it is hard to tell sometimes how badly youve been bitten until it is too late! The female mosquito is the only one that actually bites. The allergic bite mosquito reaction comes from an allergy to the saliva that the mosquito injects into your skin to keep your blood from coagulating around her proboscis.
There are several key steps you can take to avoid an allergic bite mosquito reaction. First off, if you are going to be camping around or hiking in woods that are dense with mosquitoes, be sure to wear plenty of repellent and long pants and sleeves. Also use netting around your tent and picnic areas to keep mosquitoes from biting.
If you have suffered an allergic bite mosquito reaction, there are a few remedies you can try to ease the annoying itch. Do not scratch the bite, as this will only aggravate it worse and can cause scarring and infection. Treat the bite area with calamine lotion, hydrocortisone cream, tea tree or lavender essential oils, or cold compresses. Luckily, mosquito bite swelling usually will go down with a day or two.
